Title: Letter from Lord Ilay, Regarding a Book Dedication

Author(s): Campbell, Archibald

Sr

I had yours with the
dedication of Mr Anderson
I knew very well the usuall
stile of such papers & was
therefore very [¿] in the matter.
I must say too now I have
seen it, that I wish he would
say nothing but the bare
inscription, for unleſs I
had written it intirely anew
I could not easily have
framed it to my mind, & to
be sure he thinks it very
fine, so that I hardly know
what to doe in it. I think
you had best tell him that

I am the person in the world
the most averse to complements
but will leave it to him to
do as he shall think fit.

I am Sr
Your most obt
huble servant
Ilay
